Keeping in Touch

The job of a freelance writer is very demanding. Yes, there may be a lot of freelance writing opportunities but they demand more time to finish. Research and critical analysis are also needed in order to write crisp and snappy articles. There are many changes in style if you compare current magazines and newspapers with ones that are published decades ago. Different uses of capitals, rigid phrases and hard slabs of subheading where all the banalities of the mid-90s compositions.

Even now, it is not difficult to see freelance writers maintaining outdated articles or blog posts. This means that the ignorance surrounding modern style trends comes from freelance writers who lack interest in the subject. Many freelance writing jobs do not specify a modern writing style for accomplishment. However, these writing jobs are still accepted by some people no matter how bland and boring they are. This is because there are still many readers that tolerate badly written articles when they can evenly demand for better ones.

For young freelance writers entering the competitive world of communications, it is good to get a grasp of the basics: like understanding the tenses of verbs, identifying the difference between a colon and a semicolon, appreciating the use of hyphens and dashes, and knowing the difference among various marks and punctuations. On the contrary, some freelance writers do not even wonder that the issue is all about knowing the basics. The basic ideas may seem small but they are essential for any writing jobs. When freelance writers do not take heed in using good punctuations then it is indicative that they have lax attitudes towards, if not open contempt of, a good writing style. In a corollary manner, few word processors and computer typists bother about the consistency of writing style when it is just as important as organising the ideas for any available writing jobs.

The way all people write has changed drastically over the years. Information technology and new means of communications have greatly affected both the nature of the writing jobs and the capabilities of freelance writers. The reading audience has become bigger, becoming global in constitution. The writing style must be therefore made more easily understandable but more persuasive to accommodate more world readers to appreciate the written piece. Thus this totally profound, unprecedented situation poses new challenges for freelance writers to write more readably and readily to the worldwide audience.

All in all, the effective writing style to be used must be consistent with the trend. Writing styles must change accordingly with the trends. And freelance writers must be up to date with these changes in order to stay competitive.
